Judy Sue Fowler, 83, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. Born on September 18, 1941, in Evansville, she was the daughter of the late Anexamander and Mary (Gootee) Fickas.
Judy was an active member of the Honored Ladies of the Hadi Shrine and enjoyed participating in a Dominoes Club. She grew up on the West side of Evansville and graduated in 1959 from Mater Dei High School. Judy retired after many years of service with the Social Security Office of Hearings and Appeals. Judy cherished attending the annual Fall Festival and indulged in hobbies such as cross-stitching and reading, often immersing herself in her Kindle. Dining out and exploring new restaurants were among her favorite pastimes, and during her retirement, she loved relaxing by her fireplace, even on warm July days. Her travels included memorable trips to Maui, Hawaii, and Caribbean cruises.
Judy is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Fowler and Karen (Johnny Joe) Fowler-Arias, as well as her brother, Joseph Fickas. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved cats, Baby Girl, Bug, and Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Gary Fowler, and ten siblings: Edith Saletta, Hayden Fickas Jr., June Fickas, Owen Fickas, Ollie Jane Sullivan, Mary Gene Sickman, Jack Fickas, Charlie Bill Fickas, Patty Fickas, and Star Petitjean.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 533 State Road 261. Following the service, Judy will be laid to rest next to her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville, Indiana.
