Harold E. Stone, 87, passed away on August 19, 2024 in Evansville, IN, in the city where he was born February 6, 1937. A lifelong resident of Evansville and Newburgh, Harold led a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and community.
After graduating from Reitz High School in 1955, Harold joined the Air Force, serving as an Air Traffic Controller until 1963. His military tenure instilled in him a discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. Upon returning to civilian life, Harold embarked upon a successful career at Alcoa, where he worked for 30 years before retiring at the age of 57.
Harold’s commitment to his faith was evident through his active membership at First Christian Church in Newburgh, where he participated in church services and Sunday school. He cherished the fellowship of his fellowship of his church community, often joining fellow church members and high school friends for breakfast gatherings.
A sports enthusiast, Harold played football during his high school years and basketball during his service in the Air Force. His love for sports continued throughout his life, passionately supporting Alabama football and Indiana basketball. He took great joy in watching his grandchildren engage in sports and various other activities, always offering encouragement and pride.
Harold was known for his kindness and thoughtfulness, touching the lives of many as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His legacy of love, dedication and community spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, June; daughter, Cheryl McLevain; grandchildren, Anthony Stone (Sarah), Trevor McLevain, Nicolas McLevain (fiancé Alex) and Lindsey McLevain; great granddaughter, Savannah Stone, and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Mary Stone; brother, Ray Stone, and son, Scott Stone.
A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Pastor Kevin Brimmer, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Kapperman Post #44 will provide military honors graveside. Family and friends may visit Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
