Patricia Lurel Cook passed away peacefully at home in New York from pancreatic cancer. She was born in West Islip, New York. After graduating from St. Mary’s College, she earned an MBA from NYU. She married Thomas Cook in 1977 after meeting at Notre Dame. She went on to build an illustrious career in finance, starting at Arthur Young, then became the head of fixed income at Solomon Brothers then a Managing Director at Fisher Francis Trees & Watts. She was Chief Investment Officer of JP Morgan, Chief Investment Officer for Prudential, EVP and Chief Business Officer of Freddie Mac, President of Ditech financial LLC, EVP of GreenTree, and ultimately took Finance of America public as it’s CEO before retiring to spend her remaining days traveling the world and being with her family.
Her last adventures in the time before her death include crossing the Drake Passage to Antarctica, biking in Vietnam, whale watching in Canada, ranching in Montana and skiing Utah. While known for her financial acumen, her real legacy is the humility and humanity which characterized her life’s pursuits. The eternal optimist to her last breath, she saw potential and goodness in all she touched, and had an unmatched dedication to helping others see it too. She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Cook Suozzi, Colleen Cook Flannery, Annie Cook Carroll and her six grandchildren, as well as her sisters Laurie Bonello and Marybeth Solazzo.
The funeral service will be held at Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan on Tuesday, November 7th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, we have created a donation page to donate towards a scholarship fund in our mom’s name at St. Mary’s College. Alternatively, donations are welcomed to Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer research in her name (a clickable link to both causes can be found below under the 'donations' section).
