Born February 2, 1938 in Chicago to Yetta Weiner and Sydney Lerner. He overcame humble beginnings to lead an outstanding life, including a prominent career and two happy marriages. Beloved husband of the late Helen Lerner and current wife, Fern Lerner. Cherished father of Linda R. Lerner, Marcia J. Bernstein and Gary I. Lerner, loving grandfather of Haley Bernstein, Rena N. Lerner a Shayna S. Lerner, dearest father-in-law of Steven Bernstein and Anastasia Conlin, and much loved brother of the late Gerald Lerner. Dr. Lerner was an eminent biochemist, who spent his decades-long career at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn as both a researcher and a professor. He was an avid lover of the arts and cultural activities available in Manhattan, and in his later years loved to cultivate his own artistic passion for fine art drawing. He and Fern liked to spend significant time in Rhinebeck, New York. He was esteemed in his profession and in the eyes of his family and friends. A private funeral service was held in Valhalla, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory should be made to either The American Cancer Society or the New York Metropolitan Opera.
