Born on December 24, 1928 in the Bronx and raised on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, he was a lifelong New Yorker. A graduate of Brooklyn College and Brooklyn law school, he spent over 60+ years growing his own law practice in lower Manhattan representing clients from all walks of life. He was a founding member of the Columbus Lawyers Association and he continued to be an active member of the New York State Bar Association until his passing. In addition to his passion for the law, Joe enjoyed travelling, eating and drinking fine food and spirits. Delighted to be the center of attention, he was an active raconteur and joke teller who never failed to amuse and entertain his family and friends. He loved his stories so much that he tended to repeat them to the same audience! In the early 70's, he moved with his then wife, Josephine, to Irvington, NY and raised two sons, Christopher and Joseph, Jr. A number of years after Josephine passed away, Joe met and married Eleanor Chang and they decided to move back into Manhattan, on the Upper West Side. Joe and Eleanor spent two decades together and fully enjoyed their years exploring New York City and travelling the world. Joe is survived by his wife, Eleanor Chang, his two sons Joseph J. Longo, Jr. and Christopher Longo, his step children Jeffay Chang and Julie Chang Normoyle, and their families.
A private service will be held on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021 at 3:00pm at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, NY 10023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or to Brooklyn Law School.
