November 17, 1993 to November 20, 2022
David Alfredo Pérez, known to all as Davi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022 in New York City. Davi was born in Houston, Texas to Kathleen Kopp and Alfredo Pérez on November 17, 1993. Davi attended St. Anne Catholic School (Class of 2008) and St. Thomas High School (Class of 2012) where he was a permanent member of the St. Thomas Club. After high school, Davi attended the University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He graduated cum laude from Penn in 2016 with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and immediately thereafter began his career in New York where he worked on the structured investments desk at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
In addition to his parents, Davi is survived by his brother Andres Pérez, his sister-in-law Clare Premo Pérez and his nephew Rafael, aunts Betsy Kopp and her fiancé Mike Najarian, and Jeanne Shellman and her husband, Dave, uncles Rafael Pérez, and his wife Bertha, and George Kopp, and his wife Gina Napoli, his first cousins, Sara Shellman and her son Nikola, Richard Kopp, his wife Brittany and their son Henry, Maria Shellman, Brandon Kopp, Samantha Kopp, Mario Pérez and Isabella Pérez. He also leaves behind Margarita Tamayo, who was a second mother to him, and his loving girlfriend, Kathleen Morano.
Davi had many defining qualities. He loved his family, especially his brother, Andres, and his nephew, Rafa. He was intellectually curious. He had many good friends. He loved soccer and music, especially the Greatful Dead. He could talk to anyone about seemingly obscure topics. He had a quick wit, a memorable laugh and a big smile that could light up a room. He was a genuinely kind and giving person. Although he did not have the opportunity to grow up with pets, he loved dogs and at least one cat.
Davi loved family vacations especially to the World Cups in Germany and Brazil and attending holidays and celebrations with his large extended family. He enjoyed traveling around the country to Dead & Company concerts with friends, getting together with his college buddies for ski trips to Alta and visiting the farm in Alabama and spending time with friends and family at the beach in Spring Lake.
Davi was athletic and enjoyed sports. Beginning at age six he played soccer with Coach Ade and the Flying Eagles club teams and was goal keeper for the St. Thomas High School Eagles team. He learned to ski in college and was most recently determined to become a golfer. Almost every day he could be found at the gym lifting weights and working out, or running in Central Park or along the Westside Highway. His competitive spirit was most pronounced when he mastered a new skill, won a race, or finally became the taller brother.
He will be greatly missed by his extended family, the Primos Pérez, the Rey Cousins, and his three great aunts, by his classmates from St. Anne’s and St. Thomas, by his Flying Eagle club soccer teammates and coaches, by his fraternity brothers and all his friends from Penn, by his colleagues at Morgan Stanley, the Guidrys, the Tamayo family and a host of friends.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the many friends, colleagues and family members who attended and provided great comfort during his visitation in New York and to the staff of the One Lincoln Square Condominium for their care and support.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (2140 Westheimer Road, Houston) on Tuesday, December 6th at half past ten o’clock in the morning with a reception to follow immediately thereafter in St. Basil’s Hall of the Parish Center.
