Dr. Arnold "Chuck" Rothstein

survived by his devoted wife Arden, his five daughters, Lisanne, Michelle, Barbara, Chloe and

Anya, nine grandchildren and many loving relatives and friends.

Born in Brooklyn, Chuck was a remarkable person - a psychoanalytic scholar, educator, training

and supervising analyst, author and founder of the Mental Health Program at the Lexington

School for the Deaf. He was also a great sportsman, a football team player as an undergraduate

at Brown University, an all-around gifted athlete, excelling in skiing, and triathlon, with a true

zest for life, a keen intellect and an appreciation for the arts. He kept fit, ate healthfully and was

in great condition until his recent non-COVID virus and totally unexpected sudden death.

Chuck received his MD from the Chicago Medical School and his psychoanalytic training at the

Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Among his many

affiliations he was a member of the faculty and former Director of the Psychoanalytic

Association of New York (PANY), a Training and Supervising analyst at the New York

Psychoanalytic Institute, and an honorary member of the William Alanson White Institute. He is

the author of five books -- The Narcissistic Pursuit of Perfection, The Structural Hypothesis: An

Evolutionary Perspective, Psychoanalytic Technique and the Creation of Analytic Patients, and

Making Freud More Freudian -- the editor of seven books and the author of numerous scientific

papers.

For all of his professional accomplishments, Chuck cared deeply about his family and loved

ones. He adored his wife Dr. Arden Rothstein with whom he shared 49 happy and adventurous

years of marriage, and was so proud of his daughters and his wonderful grandchildren. His

humor, his passion, warmth, and unique spirit will be remembered by all who knew him, and he

will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at the Riverside Chapel (180 Amsterdam Avenue at 76th Street)

on Sunday, October 16th at 2:30 pm and interment of ashes at the Greenlawn Cemetery in

Brooklyn (500 25th Street) on Monday, October 17th at 11:30 am.
