Mr. Mantel was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn on June 27, 1951. He was the son of Holocaust Survivors Bernard Mantel and Ruth Weichman Mantel. He attended college at New York University and law school at the University at Buffalo School of Law.
After law school, Mr. Mantel grew his practice at Rosenthal, Herman & Mantel PC and Hofheimer, Gartlir & Gross LLP before becoming a founding partner at Mantel McDonough Riso LLP.
Over a four-decade career as a matrimonial lawyer, Mr. Mantel's achievements included consistent recognition and selection by Best Lawyers of America, Super Lawyers of New York City and Ten Leaders. He also received the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. Mr. Mantel was admired by clients and colleagues alike for his exemplary leadership, pragmatism, and integrity.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Mantel is survived by his wife Janet, his son and daughter Bernard and Elizabeth, his sister Miriam Paluba, and his grandson.
