He was the son of the late DH and Josie Pearson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Anna Pearson, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Trent Bowden, son and daughter-in-law John and Carla Pearson, and his grandchildren Arianna and Shaylee Pearson and Tyler and Daniel Bowden.
John was a long-time member of Howard's Quarter Baptist Church. He grew up working on his family's farm in Tazewell. After high school, John enlisted in the Air Force where he studied electronics. He went to work at American Enka after his service, but it didn't take him long to realize farming was the only thing he wanted to do. So, that is what he did and he never regretted it. John said he never regretted his time at Enka either, because that is where he met the love of his life, Anna.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Smoky Mountain Hospice for everything they have done during John's time of illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
John will lie in state on Wednesday October 16, 2024 from 12 until 2 PM at Coffey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 PM in the Coffey Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
