Mr. John Haze Patty of Knoxville, Tennessee, age 83, was born March 2, 1932, and died peacefully February 6, 2016. He was preceded in death by parents James Daniel and Leola Grace Cox Patty, brothers James Daniel and Robert Patty, sister Dorothy Patty Gibbs, former wife Frances Latham Patty, and son-in-law James Richard Giles. He is survived by daughter Elizabeth Patty Giles, son and daughter-in-law John Paul and Ellen Taylor Patty, daughter Jane Louise Patty, daughter and son-in-law Rebecca Patty and Michael Gene Crutchfield; sister Betty Patty Peery and husband Glen; grandchildren Dustin Wayne Antrican, Meghan Giles and Bear Tullis, January Leigh Antrican, John Gordon Giles, James Nathan Giles, Caleb Michael Crutchfield, Daphne Nunn Pursiful, Clayton Haze Nunn, Chloë Grace Crutchfield, John Robert Patty and William Latham Patty; great-granddaughters Sadie Elizabeth Tullis, Atlantis Baye Kinleigh Nunn and Keely Haven Pursiful; many nieces and nephews; and special caregiver Shirley Rogers.
Born in Walland, Tennessee, Mr. Patty was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Patty went on to open John Patty Chevrolet in New Tazewell, Tennessee, in the early 1960's; Patty Bros. Datsun (Nissan), Knoxville, Tennessee, in the 1970's; and John Patty Chrysler, Middlesboro, Kentucky, in the early 1990's. He enjoyed golf at Beaver Brook and Holston Hills Country Clubs and was an avid Harley Davidson rider, automobile lover, and University of Tennessee Vol fan. Mr. Patty was a member of the Claiborne County Jaycees and Lions Club and Knoxville Elks Club.
Services for Mr. Patty will be held at New Tazewell United Methodist Church. Receiving of friends will be Tuesday, February 9, 2016, from 5-7 pm with Celebration of Life service at 7 pm. Burial will be Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at 1 pm at Prospect Cemetery in Walland, Tennessee. Ministers: Dr. Laurence Hesser and Rev. Bill Duncan. Pallbearers: Gordon Giles, Nathan Giles, Caleb Crutchfield, Dustin Antrican, Clayton Nunn, Bear Tullis, Jack Patty, Will Patty. Honorary Pallbearers: William "Buddy" Sloan and Dale Bradford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Tazewell United Methodist Church in New Tazewell, Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Walland, or the Claiborne County Animal Shelter. Coffey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
