Ellen Sue Horton age 80 of New Tazewell, TN was born September 29, 1944 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2024 , after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Sue was a devoted Christian who was saved at a young age. She was a faithful member of MCM Missionary Baptist church, where she cherished attending services and took great joy in helping with Bible School each year until her health prevented her from continuing.
Sue was an avid reader, especially of Amish books, and found immense joy in the simple pleasure of reading. She also loved working in her flower beds, where her favorite flower, the Amaryllis, flourished under her care. Above all, Sue loved her family fiercely and cherished the time she spent with them.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Horton; her mother, Henrietta Reece Bunch; her brother, Bud West; and her nephew, Tim West.
She is survived by her loving daughters: Belinda (Mark) Cupp and Shana Goins, both of New Tazewell, TN.
Sue adored her four grandsons: Mark Anthony (Jessica) Cupp, Joseph Lee (Lauren) Cupp, Hunter Holt and Spencer (Lacy) Holt, and her great-grandchildren: Ethan Joe Cupp, Chloe Cupp, Graci Cupp, Caleb Cupp, Cooper Harrison, Caroline Cupp, Carter Cupp, and Ryker Holt, Special "Grandchildren" Garrett, Micheal, and Savannah also held a treasured place in her heart, Sister: Tammy (Rick) Collins and several nieces and nephews. She was also cherished by her "grand pup", Kobe, who faithfully watched over her daily and brought her comfort during her illness.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice and a very special caregiver, Christine McGeorge, for their compassionate care and support during Sue's illness.
Sue's kind and loving spirit touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed but remembered fondly for her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and the legacy of kindness and devotion she leaves behind.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday December 21, 2024 at Coffey Funeral Home in New Tazewell with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Sue will be laid to rest with her husband at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.
