William H. Ryan, affectionately known as Billy, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2023 at the age of 80. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, real estate broker and devoted Catholic.
Billy was born on January 31, 1943 to the late Edward “Ed” Sr. and Edna Ryan and raised in New Orleans. Some of his fondest childhood memories included running around Lakeview and playing with his childhood friends, many of whom remained lifelong friends. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1961 and attended Loyola University.
He began his professional career as a machinist working for NASA Michoud Assembly Facility. Later, he developed a love and interest for real estate by working as an agent, and soon after went on to earn his broker license. In 1983, Billy founded Esquire Realty, which he proudly owned and operated for 40 years. He was known for his expertise, professionalism, and dedication. Billy’s hard work and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients.
Above all else, Billy was a man of deep faith who loved God and lived his life according to Catholic values. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Clement of Rome and often volunteered his time and resources to help those in need. His faith was an integral part of his life and he found comfort and strength in the words of St. Padre Pio, “Pray, hope and don’t worry”. Billy was a loving husband, doting dad and grandfather, “Poppa”. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, eating good food, and sharing memorable stories. He had an admirable personality and a great sense of humor. He could always bring joy and laughter into any conversation. He never met a stranger and made sure everyone felt like family. Billy will be remembered as a kind, loving and generous man who lived a devoted life to Christ and made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
The loss of Billy will be deeply felt by his wife of 21 years Valerie, children Candace Owens, Dominique Olivier (Ryan), Jarrod Rotolo (Suzanne) and Sean Rotolo, grandchildren Isabelle, Reagan, Broc, Olivia, Jolie, Brie and Charlotte, his nephew Stephen Ryan, niece Nicole Major (Sean) and many other family members and loyal friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife Laura Cobb Ryan, parents Edward “Ed” Sr. and Edna Lynch Ryan, brother Edward “Eddie” Ryan Jr. and grandson Victor van Leusden.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM at St. Clement of Rome Church, 4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie, LA 70002 on Monday, March 20, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by an interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Notre Dame Seminary in Billy's memory.
If you’ve noticed that the world is a little less brilliant, it’s because we lost an incredible man. He will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
