Royce Kay Jarrell was called to heaven on October 4, 2024. Born in Evans, LA on November 19, 1924, he was living his 100th year and often said “getting old isn't for sissies.” A long time member of Parkview Baptist Church, he attended faithfully.
He served in both WWII and the Korean conflict and was a member of the 65 Infantry Division Association as well as being active in the Confederate Air Force. He was a charter member of the WWII Museum. He had a 35 year career with Shell Oil Company, volunteered at EJ Hospital’s cardiac unit for 15 years, pursued his pilot’s license and a real estate license after retirement, and got his first computer at 80 years of age. He was always willing to learn and always had a good “dad” joke in his pocket.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine Gary Jarrell, brothers Douglas Young (Jo), and Ronnie Young (Judy) and children, Cindy Spann (David), Michael Royce Jarrell, David Leon Jarrell, Linda Byrne, Donna Speeg, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grands, 2 great-great grands and a handful of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his father, Elias Kay Jarrell, mother, LaVada Craft Jarrell, stepfather, Leon Young, first wife, Billie Ruth Spurlock Jarrell, sister, Ruth Tuten, brother, Davee Young, and son in law, Dr. Steve Speeg.
The family would like to thank Mimi’s Sitters who took care of Royce over the last weeks of his life. He was a generous man who freely gave of himself, put others first, and was loved by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wounded Warriors or your local VFW Post.
