Rose Mary Elizabeth Newman Bailey entered into Heaven on October 2, 2020 at the age of 89. Rose Mary was born August 13, 1931 to George Washington and Rosie Margaret Newman. “Aunt Rose” or “ Maw-Maw” as she was known by, may have been short stature, but made up for it in her spunk and quick wittedness. She was always ready for fun and laughs. She always had treats ready for family and friends. She was always smiling and loved being around babies and family.
Her famous spunky sayings were, “My name is little red Rose, ask me again I’ll punch you in the nose! I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck! Oh fiddlesticks! Oooh yiyi delores!”
Rose is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond E. Bailey Sr, her son Raymond E Bailey Jr, her babies Lynne and George, her sisters: Adreah Egan (Art), Elizabeth Bergeron (Bob), Mary Lamkin (Joe) , her brothers: Francis Newman (Opal) and Joseph Newman( Sue). Rose was the last of her siblings. She fought hard, for many years, through diabetes, heart failure and dementia.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family: daughters, Corinne Stuntz (the late Scott Stuntz) and Mary Freeman (TJ), her five grandchildren: Brandon Bailey (Taryn), Jessica Hillmann (Danny), Jennifer McShan (Austin), Shannon Nichols (Derek), and Sean Stuntz (Corie), her four great grandchildren: Brooklynne Carboni, Daniel Hillmann III, Riley Stuntz and Cole Stuntz, and her faithful companion, her dog, Shelby.
Special thanks to Rose’s beloved sitters who have been with her the past few years: Denise, Zoey, Sheila, Shawanda, Earlene, and Alice.
A mass will be at St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Rd. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
We ask that you please keep Rose’s spirit alive by either planting roses or sweet peas, as gardening was her favorite and those were her favorite flowers.
