The viewing will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on July 15, 2016 at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral mass at noon.
Richie was born in New Orleans on June 12, 1935 to Madeline and William Jacobs and raised by his step-mother Olive Jacobs. He served in the Army’s 3rd Armored Division in Germany, Apr. 1958 - Apr. 1960, and again Oct. 1961 - Oct. 1962.
Richie was married to Sue M. (Gatzman) Jacobs on November 19, 1960; they were happily married 55 years. Together they had four children, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Richie was a hard worker holding down two jobs for most of his career. He worked for the American Can Company for more than 30 years prior to its closure in 1988 and served as a driver for Westpet Petroleum in the late 70s and early 80s. Richie then worked for Quest Diagnostics until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, and spending time with his loving family.
Richie is survived by his wife, Sue Jacobs; his four children, Madeline Mauldin, Susan Lockhart and her husband DJ Lockhart, Pamela Marsh and husband Kenneth Marsh, Sr., Richard Jacobs, Jr. and wife Lorie Jacobs; his nine grandchildren, Fallyn Lockhart Salemi, Kenneth Marsh, Jr., Lauren Marsh, Amber Mauldin, Austin Mauldin, Mistie Lockhart, Chloe Lockhart, Lili Jacobs, and Mae Jacobs; eight great-grandchildren Kallan, Noah, Ja’Naiya, Grayson, Simone, Knight, Ashlynn, and Sebastian; his step-brother, Mickey Henderson; his nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as the rest of his family and friends.
Richie is preceded in death by his parents, Madeline Jacobs, William Jacobs, and Olive Jacobs; his brother, William Jacobs, Jr.; son-in-law, Dennis Mauldin; beloved pets, Cocoa, Buttons, Mr. Turtle, and grand-dog, Tilly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard Jacobs, Sr.'s name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
