Raymond L. Houpy, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and resident of Lacombe, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2023 at the age of 83 surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born to the late Florence Retz and Ventura Houpy Sr., he was preceded in death by brothers Ventura Jr, Michael, Bobby, Albert and Lawrence. He is a husband, brother, grandfather, teacher and friend who will be greatly missed.
He proudly served the New Orleans public school district for over 30 years. He enjoyed the teaching profession, and was certified in general science, physics, mathematics, academically gifted and professional improvement, and earned his Ph.D in 1988. He served students at McDonogh 35, Abramson High School, Nichols High School, and Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Roche Houpy, his children, Shawn Morse (Dan), Gloria Palazola (Joe), David Houpy (Yvonne), Margaret Chavez (Matthew), his sister Charlene Rush and brother Charles Houpy, Sr. (Jo Ann). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Morse, Jordan Morse, Nicholas Palazola, Heather Palazola, Jacoby Houpy, Meghan Houpy, Ethan Garrity, and Estella Chavez. He was great-grandfather to Elliot, Lincoln, Isabella, Margot, Sunny, and Emelia.
The family would like to thank the hospice caregivers in Lacombe and the clergy at St. John of the Cross in Lacombe.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Lake Lawn Funeral Home in Metairie, Louisiana with a mass of Christian Burial at 1:00PM in the chapel.
While flowers are welcome, the family asks for donations to St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Lacombe, LA in thanks for the attention and prayer as Raymond transitioned to be with our Lord.
