Michael Martin Schenck, a resident of New Orleans, was born on January 8, 1969, and passed away on November 11, 2022, at the age of 53. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1987. After high school, he attended the University of Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
In 1999, Michael founded his business, Sterling Financial Services, with a goal of helping others achieve the dream of home ownership through competitive mortgage financing. Over the 23 years that he successfully operated Sterling, he helped hundreds of families achieve their home ownership goals. To further educate himself and better aid his clients, he obtained his real estate license and his property and casualty insurance license. Michael’s dedication and hard work resulted in Sterling Financial Services being recognized for many awards. From 2019 to 2021, Sterling was in the top 1% of financial institutions in the United States, and in 2020, Michael himself was acknowledged as one the top loan officers in Louisiana.
Michael was not only a driven, successful businessman but was also a loving, devoted father, husband, and friend. Michael is survived by his wife of over 26 years, Mrs. Colleen (Schmidt) Schenck; their four children, Henry “Jacob” Schenck, Claire Virginia Schenck, Ethan Michael Schenck, and Sophie Abigail Schenck; his mother, Carlene Schenck Daboval; sister, Cara Schenck Sundquist (Scot); nephew Will; and nieces Lily and Autumn. He was preceded in death by his father Henry Jacob Schenck.
Michael was passionate about a variety of sports, especially basketball, which he played throughout high school and later as an adult. Additionally, he always watched and often attended the New Orleans Pelicans and Saints games with his children. He also took great pride in coaching his children’s sports teams and attending their various school and extracurricular events. Michael also enjoyed volunteering at St. Michael’s Special School Field of Dreams.
Michael and his wife Colleen shared their love for working in their garden together. He was a talented cook, and it brought him great joy to share this knowledge with his children.
On Michael’s birthday, January 8th, 2023, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in his honor. Details will be disclosed at a later date.
