Matthew (Matt) Harrison King, born September 11th, 1959, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. He died in his home surrounded by family, with his beloved wife Carla holding his hand. Born in St. Louis, MO, Matt called New Orleans, LA home for most of his life. He was a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a dedicated employee to the USDA Southern Regional Research Center as a Facilities Operations Specialist for the past 32 years. He was a loving husband and beloved father and grandfather, affectionately referred to as “Pops”. An avid and skillful golfer, he had a genuine passion for the game of golf and enjoyed many weekends spent on the golf course. Truly loved by all and incredibly personable, he lived up to the phrase: “He never met a stranger.” Matt was generous, thoughtful and sincere; always there whenever anyone needed him. He deeply loved music and spending time with family and friends, visiting his favorite culinary spots, and enjoying the occasional glass of scotch. He fought a tough battle with cancer and his bravery and positivity were remarkable in the face of all that he endured. He always displayed a positive disposition and was a true inspiration on how to live a full and meaningful life. He will be remembered for many things, especially his consistent, straight shots down the fairway, his friendly nature, and above all the genuine interest he displayed in his loved one’s lives.
Preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Miskell King and Blanche King Coleman; and brother Phillip “Pete” Miskell King, Jr. Matt is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Carla Metrejean King; his two adoring children, Lexi King Bienvenu (Drew) and Tyler Christian King (Caroline); and two grandchildren, Harrison Parker Bienvenu and Audrey Catherine King. Matt is also survived by his brother, Mitchell “Mitch” King (Mickey Fenyk-King) and sister-in-law Cindy King; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gone too soon, he will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family would like to give special thanks to Sierra, Diane and Barbara of Notre Dame Hospice. The King family invites you to celebrate Matt’s life at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, May 14th, 2022.
