For Grief by John O’Donahue

When you lose someone you love,
Your life becomes strange,
The ground beneath you gets fragile,
Your thoughts make your eyes unsure;
And some dead echo drags your voice down
Where words have no confidence.

Your heart has grown heavy with loss;
And though this loss has wounded others too,
No one knows what has been taken from you
When the silence of absence deepens.

Flickers of guilt kindle regret
For all that was left unsaid or undone.

There are days when you wake up happy;
Again inside the fullness of life,
Until the moment breaks
And you are thrown back
Onto that black tide of loss.

Days when you have your heart back,
You are able to function well
Until in the middle of work or encounter,
Suddenly with no warning,
You are ambushed by grief.

It becomes hard to trust yourself.
All you can depend on now is that
Sorrow will remain faithful to itself.
More than you, it knows its way
And will find the right time
To pull and pull the rope of grief
Until that coiled hill of tears
Has reduced to its last drop.

Gradually, you will learn acquaintance
With the invisible form of your departed,
And when the work of grief is done,
The wound of loss will heal
And you will have learned
To wean your eyes
From that gap in the air
And be able to enter the hearth
In your soul where your loved one
Has awaited your return
All the time.

Welcome Address and reading from the Book of Wisdom at Scotty Lynch's Funeral, June 29th, 2018 by his grandfather:

Welcome to you all. 
On behalf of Scotty’s parents: his mother Gina, his father Scott, his sister Caroline, his brother Christopher, his grandmother Patricia, & myself Corrado Giacona II his grandfather.

To all here, my immediate family and I, have tried to personally thank each & every one of you. Please forgive us if we have missed anyone. 
Let it be said that today we are all of one, loving Family, Scotty’s Family.
Words alone cannot express the overwhelming gratitude of our immediate family to all of you here.

Our special thanks go out to Scotty’s Godfather, Christopher Lynch for giving a beautiful Eulogy as well as Scotty’s friends. 
Special thanks to my dear friend for many years before & after Katrina who will celebrate Mass for us today:
Fr. Eddie Gross, Pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, at Loyola University. Fr. Eddie is more than a priest, he is a true Pastor,
a Shepherd to his flock, who is beloved by his parishioners. Thank you, Fr. Eddie.

Scotty was ready for the world, ready to put his fingerprint upon it, having worked diligently to attain his degree at LSU & UNO, specializing in Accounting Analytics. 
He had a job with a future at Imperial Wealth Management run by our dear family friend, Charles Genois.
Suddenly, in a tragic accident, Scotty’s human presence has left us & is now with God & in a reunion with his former relatives. 

Our lives now have a vast void that seeming cannot be filled. Those without Faith will wonder… WHY did God allow this?  How & why did God do such a thing?
BUT, God is LOVE. He is Infinite, Perfect, Love.  He cannot do evil or an injustice. His desire is simply to have a personal relationship with each one of us.
BUT He only goes where he is invited. 
The mass readings today have words that will give solace to those with Faith but to those without, the Void seemingly cannot be filled.

Those with Faith are already understanding that all of us are still “A Work in Progress” but Scotty is now in the hands of his loving Creator who has “Snatched” him from us & he is now where we all long to be.  He has finished the race with Grace.
We now have a intercessor in Heaven, Angelic, but human like Jesus, to communicate on our behalf to the God of Love. Countless Blessings are already flowing & beginning to fill the Void of his lost, precious presence.
God will provide, we must be patient, observant to see his interventions, thankful for His Graces & trust completely in Him.

The 27th Psalm of David says it wonderfully: “Wait for the Lord, take courage, be stouthearted & wait for the Lord”.

May the Perpetual Light shine upon us,  all & May the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Mass for Martin Scott Lynch: 1st Reading from Book of Wisdom 4: 7-15

The just man, though he die early, shall be at rest.
For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, 
   Nor can it be measured in terms of years.
Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men,
    And an unsullied life, the attainment of old age.
He who pleased God was loved;
    He who lived among sinners was transported-
Snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind
    or deceit beguile his soul:
For the witchery of paltry things obscures what is right
    And the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind.

Having become perfect in a short while,
    He reached the fullness of a long career;
    For his soul was pleasing to the Lord,
    Therefore he sped him out of the midst of wickedness.
But the people saw and did not understand,
     Nor did they take this into account.

The Word of the Lord.


Recently, I had the honor and privilege to meet Scotty as he began to explore career opportunities.  It was exciting to hear his plans and ideas to contribute and learn  along the journey.  I am the fortunate one to have been blessed for our brief interaction and offer prayers for his family.

Corrado and Pat, we send our deepest sympathy and condolences to you and your family. May you all find solace in knowing that Scotty is at peace and is with our Lord and joins Him in watching over all of your family.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss. May you be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you. He is now in the  Arms
of his Creator.

Scotty,  we didn't cross paths often but when we did usually around Giacona Container Co. and most recently hanging with you and your Grandfather, MR.G.  at the New Orleans World Trade Center, it was always a pleasure being in your presence, which always included lots of smiles, good conversation, and laughter.  The world was a better place with your presence in it, you will be missed and loved by so many but not forgotten. 
My Prayers are with you and your family.  May God be with you and comfort your family and all whose life you were in.

Scotty... my one-of-a-kind, insanely  smart, incredibly cool, immensely talented, caring, selfless and protective brother. I AM PROUD to be you sister.  Your unique, courageous, brave and loving spirit is something that I have always admired. You were a gift to us.  Nobody will ever be like you. There will never be words strong enough to express the sorrow I am experiencing in losing you in this physical world. I miss you so badly and will miss you every day for the rest of my life. I can’t wait to meet again one day; and until then, I promise to make you proud and live the way you would want me to live. Although I am  your older sister, you protected me like a big brother and always guided me and made sure I made the right choices and that I was always safe.  I still feel you  and I know that you are near me and our family and all of your friends (which are ABUNDANT). We have the most amazing  guardian angel now. I feel your love and presence and I know that you are happy and in more peace than any of us can even fathom. You are such a UNIQUE and special person and God had plans for you that we weren’t ready for. The impact you made in 25 years on this earth has far exceeded the impact that many people make in a lifetime. I am HONORED to be your sister. I am PROUD of who you have been and the person you BECAME.  You did it buddy.  I’m so proud of you. You are so loved and that love will continue on. There is nothing stronger than love. It is never gone. I feel you and I love you infinitely. Always and forever.  I will continue to live each day in your honor -  the way that I know you want me to live. Thank you for being such a light and inspiration in my life for 25 out of my 27 years on earth. I wish I could be with you physically now  but I will continue to feel your presence and will hold you in my mind and heart every moment of my life. I’m so grateful for every  memory we shared. I love you with all my heart and soul, my bestfriend & brother, SCOTTY LYNCH. ❤️
