Marlene Di Martino Klein passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the age of 85. She was a longtime resident of Lakeview, and a loyal parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Marlene taught at St. Dominic School in the 50s and 60s, and was a substitute teacher for many years at various schools in the Lakeview area. She was a devout catholic and a true servant of the Lord. Marlene had a heart of gold, and was always the first to arrive in a time of need. She never had children of her own, but she loved her nieces and nephews, as well as their children, as if they were her own, and they thought of her as another mother and grandmother.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Katherine “Katie” Di Martino; her beloved husband, John “Jack” Klein, M.D.; her sister, Catherine “Connie” Shambra; and nephew, John “Johnny” Shambra, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Lee Anna Di Martino; nieces, Darlene Schloegel Bretz (Raymond) and Lee Ann Shambra LeBlanc; nephew, Samuel A. Schloegel (Gina); grandnieces and nephews, Justin Hartenstein (Tiffanie), Brandon A. Hertenstein (Alex), Katherine “Katie” Schloegel, Samantha Schloegel, Samuel LeBlanc (Rebecca), and Angela LeBlanc; and great-grandnephew and niece, Justin Hartenstein, Jr., and Avangeline “Ava” Hartenstein.
A special thank you to Tyheasha “Tasha” Crumedy, who cared for Marlene for many years. The family is eternally grateful for her love and caring she had for Marlene. The family would also like to thank Cenovia “CC” and LaQuan for being there whenever Tasha needed them. These ladies are now considered part of our family.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, October 11, 2018 beginning at 12:30 pm at St. Dominic Catholic Church in New Orleans. A funeral mass will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
