Jacinta “Marie” Meyers Moreau entered into eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 12, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones. Marie was born on November 27, 1931. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ferdinand P. Meyers and Rosalia “Rose” Claire Manichia Meyers, her brothers William “Willie” Meyers (Sylvia Ruiz Meyers) and Ferdinand P. “Tippy” Meyers. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Meyers McKenna (late William “Bill” McKenna) and her sister-in-law Mary “Patsy” Meyers.
She leaves to mourn and yet rejoice in her living, her husband, Wils J. Moreau Sr. of 66 years. Marie’s most precious gifts were her son, Wils J. Moreau Jr. and his wife, Darleen Laizer Moreau, who she referred to as “my second daughter”, her daughter Sharon M. Pohlmann, who she referred to as “my baby” and her husband Anthony “Tony” Pohlmann. Her unconditional love for her children will never be forgotten.
MawMaw Ree was adored by her four grandchildren, Michelle Moreau Schaefer (Bradley), John Miquet III, Raymond “Ray” Moreau, and Roseann Miquet Leblanc (fiancé Christopher Piazza). She nurtured and cared for them all and she loved every minute of her homemade grandchild daycare. To them, she was a culinary artist. They loved eating at MawMaw’s house. To Marie, her “precious angels” could do no wrong. Marie had two great-granddaughters, Hailey Rose Leblanc, who she referred to as “my sweet angel pie”, and Juliet Noelle Schaefer. She was blessed with one great-grandson, Jackson Leo Schaefer.
She was a loving Godmother to Michael “Mike” Piazza, Rickey Glen Meyers and William “Billy” McKenna. “Nanan” will be missed by them, and by many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Marie had a kind and loving soul for all but, especially for babies. She assisted in the care of Jon Guliani for several years before her grandchildren were born. She also babysat for Ella Wang even though she was well into her seventies. Much love and blessings were poured on these children.
Marie was a native of Bertrandville, LA and a resident of Metairie, LA for the past 59 years where she learned to ride a bike for the very first time. It was her joy to peddle the neighborhood. She was profoundly committed to her Catholic faith and a firm believer in the miracles of Father Seelos. Marie was a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. She was also the secretary of their CCD classes for many years.
Her hobby was cooking Wednesday night dinners for the entire family. It pleased her to have you come with a big appetite. She found pleasure in serving others as did her mother before her. Marie deeply mourned the passing of her mother who lived with her and Wils for over 10 years. Rose, whom she called her best friend, and Marie are together again and the family is comforted knowing they are probably planning a Wednesday night dinner for us all on our arrival. She loved Bingo and was lucky at winning. Marie adored the city and enjoyed eating at some of its famous restaurants. Boiled crabs were her favorite but, then again, anything with crabmeat was always her first choice. The New Orleans Saints were her #1 team but she loved football in general. She knew more statistics and players than most fans.
Marie, lovingly referred to by some as “ReRe”, was an extremely loved woman and will be forever missed and remembered as a devoted and loyal wife, daughter, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, Nanan, and friend who cherished her family and her precious time on earth.
A special thank you from our family goes out to Mrs. Myrna, Carol, and Trinise for their love and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 2:00pm. Visitation will begin at 11:00am. Interment in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
