Lynette’s life was defined by her unwavering generosity, kindness and boundless love. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Born in Huntington, W.V., on March 23, 1933 to Jack London and Beatrice Trope London, Lynette graduated from Huntington High in 1951. She followed her doting older brother, the late Dr. Richard London, to Louisiana, graduating from LSU in 1955. She then moved to New Orleans, where she worked as a medical technologist at Charity Hospital.
Like her husband, the late David B. Fried, Jr., Lynette was a longtime tennis player and enthusiast. In fact, the second time they met was on the tennis court. David, a manufacturer’s representative, and Lynette were happily married for 59 years. For most of that time Lynette worked at David’s side as the office manager of their business. David passed away in 2015 at the age of 88.
Lynette was also an active community member in New Orleans, volunteering for many years as the treasurer of Friends of City Park.
Some of her greatest joys included playing Rummikub and bridge, pastimes she loved sharing with friends and family. Many cherished moments were spent around the game table, where her playful spirit shone. She was also a member of the Lambeth House welcome and birthday committees.
Lynette is survived by her daughter Evelyn (Richard) Lazear, son David (Judy) Fried, grandchildren Lee Lazear, Richard Lazear, Sophie Lazear, Haley Fried, David B. Fried, IV, and numerous family members for whom she cared about deeply.
Lynette will be remembered as the incredible woman she was – and the love she so freely gave to so many – at a memorial service at Lambeth House, 150 Broadway St., New Orleans, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 10:30 a.m. A private interment service for family will be held in Hebrew Rest Cemetery III.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Congregation Temple Sinai, Jewish Community Day School, Lambeth House Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
