He was born in Vacherie, Louisiana, on April 5, 1928 to Louis L. Rome, Sr. and Rose Haydel Rome. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. After graduating from Soulé Business College, he embarked on a 46 year career as a food broker with Progressive Brokerage Co Inc. He retired as a food service director, a title he held for 28 years. He was a member of the New Orleans Food Broker Association- and even served as president. He was proud to be awarded a certificate as an Honorary Citizen of New Orleans by Mayor Moon Landrieu.
As a devout Catholic, his faith was a very important part of his life. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Holy Name Society and a loyal parishioner of Saint Agnes for 69 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed ballroom dancing, reading, fishing, boating, and spending time with his family.
He was a kind, patient, and loving man- always putting his family first. As a man of strong faith, he prayed daily and never missed an opportunity to attend Mass. He lived his faith in his everyday life. Louis Rome was a gift- who taught us how to love and live. He will be cherished always.
