Leona “Dee” Cardella Winters passed away on June 2, 2024 at the age of 80. She was born in New Orleans, LA on August 8, 1943. Dee graduated from St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans and retired as a medical assistant and hairdresser.
She was a parishioner of St. Benilde Catholic Church and a supporter of Catholic Charities. Dee Dee was a “prayer warrior” who adored Jesus Christ and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and Holy Rosary. Dee also enjoyed crafting, scrap booking, cooking, making fudge, wreath design, and devotional reading.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, David Henry Winters; parents, Joseph Petix-Cardella and Olga Maria Braud Cardella; sisters, Rachael Roux and June Petix-Cardella Adams; and brothers, Russel Petix-Cardella and Joseph Petix-Cardella, Jr.
Dee is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Marie Culotta (Roy J. Culotta); son, John David “Jay” Winters (JoAnne Ramsey); sisters, Beverly Petix-Cardella and Mary Nobles Cardella Williams; grandchildren, Tyler Winters, Paige Winters, David Culotta, Jules Culotta, Roy Culotta, Jr., Elizabeth Culotta, Henry Culotta, Morgan Winters, David Mendieta, and Taylore Mendieta; great-grandchild, Westin Crew Winters; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Major and Donna Winters of Lake Providence, LA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation and funeral mass on Monday, June 10, 2024 at St. Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division Street, Metairie, LA 70001. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the mass at 12:00 p.m. The interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum, which is within Metairie Cemetery, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.
