Katharine Eunice Laird Livaudais

Katharine Laird Livaudais, 91, of New Orleans died peacefully on August 8, 2017. She was born in Chicago on August 25, 1925, the daughter of Robert Alexander and Francis Eunice (Ward) Laird. Following her 1942 graduation from Holy Name High School, New Orleans became her permanent residence. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Sophie Newcomb College at Tulane University in 1946, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She was married to Alfred Friedrichs Livaudais until his death in 1989. They had four children. Upon graduating, Mrs. Livaudais was employed by Tulane Medical School, and then she enjoyed over 30 years as a private Louisiana tour guide with Helen R. Dietrich, Inc. She was active in countless social organizations and clubs, including The Orleans Club, Le Petit Salon, France-Amerique de la Louisiane, les Causeries du Lundi, Southern Yacht Club and the New Orleans Country Club. Her personal interests and talents were extensive. She enjoyed carnival, the French language, bridge, opera, sewing, genealogy and travel. A talented musician and artist, she played the piano beautifully and had a gift for painting in oil and pastels. She had an unwavering Catholic faith. She was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Church and served as both Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan. In 2007, she was conferred the Order of St. Louis from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Katharine was predeceased by her parents as well as by her loving husband, Alfred F. Livaudais. She is survived by their four children, Harriet Livaudais (Keric) Buckner, Alfred Friedrichs (Marie) Livaudais, Jr., Katharine Livaudais (Burt) Carnahan, and Madeleine Livaudais (Edward) Roberson, 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved identical twin, Harriet Laird Martin, with whom she had a remarkable bond. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:00 am immediately preceding the service.
