Raised in Uptown New Orleans, she graduated from St. Teresa's Catholic School. She was taught to love the Lord with a deep devotion instilled in her by her loving mother, Odeal. She enjoyed attending church services and singing in the choir.
She was named Josephine in honor of Saint Joseph and she loved going to The Saint Joseph's altar to celebrate her birthday.
She had fond memories of her childhood on Prytania Street. She spent summers swimming and playing with her beloved cousins, Jules and Wynona, and lifelong friends, Doris and Mary.
She met the love of her life, Leroy Seely, fell in love and they were married during WWII
and honeymooned in Niagara Falls before he received his next orders with the Army Air Corp.
She was devoted to helping her family and always available through good times and bad times.
A true southern belle, she was beautiful, soft-spoken, and kind. Always polite, she had a wonderful way with people and everyone had fond memories of her.
Her family was from Marksville, Louisiana and can trace their background to the French Colonialists, a genteel people who sailed to America in The 1700s from Domrémy, France, the birthplace of Joan of Arc.
Her family spoke French and as a child, she would dream of the day when she would get to go to the ball with a string of pearls draped on a freshly powdered back.
She traveled with her husband during WWII and had wonderful memories of young love that she cherished.
She loved music and she was always admired on the dance floor.
She loved to spend summers in Bay Saint Louis and yearly trips to Mexico
She was a social butterfly and had a great rapport with people; always witty and charming. She never turned down an invitation to socialize.
She was an active member in Christian Women's Club, AARP, Silver Sneakers and her church.
She enjoyed traveling around the world, taking in the sights and meeting new friends. Her favorite trip was her pilgrimage to Israel and loved to talk about the day that she was baptized in the River Jordon.
She worked in the real estate and insurance business and many customers became admiring friends.
She loved beauty and surrounded herself with the items that made her happy.
She was fiercely independent, lived on her own terms and was still driving at 87. Her car was a symbol of her independence.
She was friendly, soft spoken and engaged. A real people person.
Thanks for teaching us to be polite, well-mannered, kind and considerate of others.
We love you.
