Joseph Paul Montelepre, Sr. entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2021 at his home in Metairie, LA. He was born on May 23, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to the late Anna and John Montelepre. Preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ludolph Montelepre, sisters Doris Cosse, Claire Cresson and Mary Elaine Simms. He is survived by his brother, John Montelepre (Janice). He grew up in New Orleans, LA, attended St. Aloysius High School and then Loyola University, where he earned a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree and met the love of his life, Nancy Clare Ludolph. Joe and Nancy were married for 68 wonderful years. Joe was the loving father of Joseph Montelepre, Jr. (Karen), Robert Montelepre (Marian), Eileen Dillmann (Chuck), Kevin Montelepre (Cheryl), Lisa Herr (Brett) and Dawn Gillen (Glenn). He was the proud grandfather of Danny Montelepre (Ami), Tiffany Bacon (Tim), Ryan Montelepre (Tiffany), Paul Montelepre, John Montelepre, Lisa Stierwald (Rob), Jamie Montelepre (James Bartelle), Katherine Montelepre, Laura Bassil (Jason), Christine Montelepre, Dawn Binder (Trey), Kelly Dillmann (Trey), Dustin Dillmann (Heather), Jeffrey Montelepre (Ashleigh), Stephen Montelepre, Elizabeth Montelepre, Anne-Marie Montelepre, Kristen Herr, Rachel Herr, Madison Gillen, Mallory Gillen and Glenn “Patrick” Gillen, Jr. He is also survived by great grandchildren: Lexi Montelepre, Allie Montelepre, Christian Bacon, Charlotte Bacon, Claire Bacon, Colleen Bacon, Sable Ruchon, Cadence Dupuis, Elizabeth Stierwald, Robert Stierwald, Benjamin Bassil, Lily Bassil, Hunter Binder, Avery Binder, Caden Dillmann and Angelo De Luca.
Joe served during the Korean War as a medic with the Louisiana National Guard. Both Joe and Nancy began their pharmacy careers by opening their own pharmacy. Joe later worked for Abbott Laboratories as a pharmaceutical representative for the majority of his career. His main hobby was growing fruits, vegetables, orchids and roses in his large garden. He welcomed co-workers and friends who came to see his garden and got tips on growing delicious oranges, tomatoes and many other vegetables. Joe was especially known for his incredible sense of humor and always finding ways to make you smile.

We would especially like to thank his personal nurse/granddaughter, Dawn Binder, for the endless hours of advice, care and loving concern. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 12:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM, with recitation of the rosary at 11:30AM.
