John J. Dorsa, Jr.

John Joseph Dorsa Jr., born December 1, 1949 passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 71. John was born in New Orleans, LA, but was a lifetime resident of Metairie. John worked as a warehouse manager for over 35 years, and upon retiring he became a driver for Enterprise. John was a graduate of John McDonogh Senior High School, Class of 1967. After completing high school John attended UNO formally known as LSUNO, and graduated with the class of 1972. John was a part of various organizations: St. Ann Men’s Club, Knight of Columbus Msgr. Duke Council #3465, Irish Channel St. Patrick Club, Delta Sigma Pi Epsilion Nu Chapter, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Bienville #314. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council #1437, and the Italian Cultural Society. John was also a parishioner of St. Ann Church and Shrine. He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Dorsa Sr.; mother, Elvira Guimont Dorsa; father-in-law, Louis Thomas Calato; mother-in-law, Alice Ponamsky Calato. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Calato Dorsa; his son John Louis Dorsa, and his son’s fiancée Regan Canfill. John is also survived by his brother-in-law, Louis T. Calato; sister-in-law, Gayle Battaglia Calato; niece, Melissa C. Colston; nephew, Ryan Colston, great niece and nephew, Hunter and Stella Colston. John was also awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild, Baby Dorsa due in August. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Dr. Metairie, LA 70006, at 10:30am until12:30pm. Mass will follow.
