John Maureé Davis, Jr., age 77, born on December 15, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away after a brief illness on October 22, 2017 in New Orleans. Loving and devoted husband and father, he is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Dawn Elizabeth MacLeod Davis, their two children Emily Elizabeth Davis, and Diana Stuart Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Maureé and Louise Coats Davis, and his sister Diane Davis Howell. John was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University where he was Treasurer and President of Kappa Sigma fraternity. In the early 70’s, he joined the Exxon Corporation as a petroleum engineer in Arkansas, and was subsequently transferred to New Orleans where he completed his MBA in Finance at Tulane University. Upon graduation, he joined the IBM Corporation as a systems engineer. He was on the team that developed the MOTION online network for the New Orleans Police Department interfacing with the National Criminal Information Center database. He also helped Charity Hospital develop their first database management applications as well as develop online systems at Ochsner Hospital. He was then transferred to Nashville, TN with the IBM business group that was charged with developing the database prototype for state government agencies that was subsequently installed nationwide. Upon completion of this project, he moved to Dallas with IBM where he taught IBM customers database application design. Additionally, he was the systems engineer for IBM for the U.S. Federal Reserve in Dallas. He transferred back to the IBM New Orleans branch office as a Systems Engineering Manager in 1984, and continued supporting IBM customers in the region until his retirement in 2011, after 43 years with the company. John was an active member for 30 years of the Krewe of Hermes, and looked forward to riding each Mardi Gras season. He was past president of the Lake Vista Property Owners Association on two separate occasions, and was involved in preserving the uniqueness of his neighborhood. He was a long time member of Southern Yacht Club where he treasured the competition and fellowship of Friday evening races and enjoyed exercising in the yacht club gym with his wife. John was a longstanding member of the Lakeview Presbyterian Church, and served as an Elder, in addition to serving on the Finance and Property Committees. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1pm, at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, 5914 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124 with a Service of Witness to the Resurrection and in Celebration of the life of John Maureé Davis commencing at 2pm. Interment will immediately follow at Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lakeview Presbyterian Church.
