Jacqueline Bourgeois Ehrhardt received her wish for a beautiful death as she passed away surrounded by her children on Saturday evening, Aug. 21, at the age of 96. She was born on February 28, 1925 in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm P. Ehrhardt Jr. who died in 1966. She was also preceded by her parents Felix and Eugenie Bourgeois, brother Hilton Bourgeois, sister Elaine Reese Blanke and son-in-law Glenn P. Welch Jr. She is survived by her children Malcolm (Pia), Gwen Ehrhardt Welch, Philip (Linda) and Ken (Liz). She was proud of her ten grandchildren: Glenn (Tammy), Tiffany (Brian), Marc (Bridget), Jeff (Kathy), Courtney (Nathan), Scott (Shannon), Philip (Erica), Kenny, Ryan (Katelyn) and Andrew. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Angela Merici Church parish since 1965. Jackie was educated at Incarnate Word Elementary school, Dominican High School and College. She was a mainstay member of the faculty and Joy Center at St. Michael Special School for more than 40 years. She also taught elementary and CCD courses at St. Matthew the Apostle School and St. Lawrence the Martyr School in Metairie. She volunteered for many years at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans and was the proud recipient of the Order of St. Louis Medal which she received from Archbishop Phillip Hannan. Jackie loved her family and having them together as many times as possible throughout the year. Her home was the center of Thanksgiving Day dinner for more than 50 years, where she hosted immediate and extended family members with the same warmth and watched three generations grow from the kids’ table to join the adults in the dining room. For virtually every day of the year, her home was the place that family members loved to catch up with MaMa and to tell her about their own activities. She will be missed but always remembered fondly for her love, support and kindness.
