He is survived by his wife, best friend, and “love of his life” for 44 years, Debbie Stansbury; his children, Donnie (Johnette), Monique and Brent Stansbury, and Chad Bonnet (Billie); his grandchildren, Chad Jr. and Emma Bonnet, Kodi Pellegrin, Matthew (Summer), and Braiden Summeral; his nieces, Tracey Wood (Amado), Christy Perret (Garret), and Kimberley Bulloch (Gil); great nephews, Noah and the late Zachery Labrosse; great nieces, Taylor Kitto (Collin), Alexandra Hunt (Justin), Hannah and Julia Perret; four great grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
Gus graduated from Fortier High School in New Orleans and in 1965 went on to the Police Academy. He was dedicated to law enforcement and retired from the NOPD after 25 years of service. He also worked as security for Pat Taylor, a civilian investigator for Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office (under DA, Harry Connick) and as a fraud investigator for Geico Insurance Co. He was a volunteer for many years for Missing and Exploited Children. One of his greatest accomplishments was discovering the Boy Scout pedophilia ring in New Orleans, which is documented in “The Clown and the Candy Man.”
He was an avid Saints and LSU fan. Gus never missed a good car show or drag race with his sons, grandsons, and nephews. Every summer he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about fishing and crabbing. His endless wisdom and unconditional love will be forever cherished.
