Son of Joseph and Nola Caravella, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gerry Lambert. George is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Maydel Cure Caravella, his children, Sheron Caravella (Wayne), Karen Gidlow, Nancy Roach (Rick), Chris Caravella (Pam) and George G. Caravella, his 8 grandchildren and 7 ½ great grandchildren.
After serving his country in the United States Air Force, George moved his family back to New Orleans and took over the Caravella family meat market at 609 Frenchman Street. He also worked for A&P in the French Quarter as a meat cutter for a time. George loved interacting with his customers, many whom he considered friends.
A native of New Orleans, George loved to be out on his boat fishing or trawling, riding his bike in the French Quarter, exploring the shops and seeking “treasures”, people watching and enjoying Cafe Au Lait and Beignets often. George was also an involved member of the Knights of Columbus. In his later years, he enjoyed eating out and going to the casinos in Mississippi. We were thrilled he was able to celebrate his 90th birthday on December 10th, doing just that. But most important of all, George was a sweet, kind-hearted man with a warm smile, who dearly loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all.
