With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of Frank J. Peragine, a man whose many years proved what life could be. Frank was born on July 6th, 1925, in New York City, the eighth child of Santina Cocola and Daniel Peragine, both of whom immigrated to America from Italy. The early deaths of his parents meant that Frank was orphaned at a young age, but he was lovingly raised by his older sisters, Alyce, Aida, and Tess. During that time, he became a fan of sandlot football, avidly playing quarterback with the Bayside Ramblers, where his buddies nicknamed him, fittingly, “brains.” Frank learned many Irish songs in his youth from the lively Irish population in Bayside at the time. Two weeks after graduating from Bayside High School, in July of 1943, Frank volunteered for the Army. The time he spent serving our country in World War II was life changing, and in November of 1944 he was wounded in France and rescued the next morning on Armistice Day. After serving, Frank enrolled on the GI bill at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, graduating in 1949 with a degree in civil engineering. Soon after, he attended law school at LSU, where he met his wife, Ann Ronaldine Kothe of Gretna, Louisiana. The two married in 1953 and moved permanently to New Orleans a few years later. They had four children: Christopher, Clare, Martha, and Alex. Frank loved being a father, a husband, and a lawyer. His professional successes were many. He was a name partner at the law firm Simon, Peragine, Smith, and Redfearn, which he helped to found, and he once argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. In his free time, Frank had a passion for sailing, woodwork, history, opera, and singing Irish tunes and hymns. He is survived by his children, Christopher, Martha, and Alex, his seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. until the mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA. The interment will follow on the same grounds in Metairie Cemetery.
