F. Henri Lapeyre, Jr., age 79, died on May 25, 2021 after battling complications from atypical Guillain-Barré Syndrome. He was born in New Orleans on June 17, 1941, to the late Felix Henri Lapeyre and Marie Thérèse Villere Lapeyre. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Diana Davis Lapeyre, and their six children: Felix H. Lapeyre, III (Holly), Etienne C. Lapeyre (Elizabeth), Alice B. Lapeyre, Michael D. Lapeyre, Emily I. G. Lapeyre, and Angelique L. Vialou (Alexandre). He is preceded in death by his sisters, Anita L. Lapeyre, R.S.C.J and Marie Thérèse Shaffer. Brother of Paul Lapeyre (Judy), Marguerite Young, Odile Lagarde (Stewart), Jeanne Adams (Philip), Madeleine Torre (Jean), Michel Lapeyre (Ruth) and Francis Lapeyre (Maryanne). He was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren.
After graduating Jesuit High School in 1959, he obtained his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University. He spent his early career as in-house counsel for Texaco, Inc. and subsequently established his own law practice, Lapeyre and Lapeyre. He represented numerous independent oil and gas companies and landowners who valued his keen intellect and understanding of oil and gas law. He presented papers at the Rocky Mountain Law Institute and the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Association, and the New Orleans Bar Association. In addition, he served on the board of Our Lady of Holy Cross College. He was a member of the New Orleans Country Club, the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, the Pickwick Club, the Society of the War of 1812, the Sons of the Revolution, and various carnival organizations.
Henri was happiest when entertaining friends and family. A loving husband and devoted father, he adored his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pop”. He was seldom seen without a baby in his arms. Pious, generous, and kind—he was truly a Man for Others.
