Eleanor Lau Wolfe, born September 1, 1938, was received into the arms of Jesus at 76 years old, on September 14, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with many health issues including cancer. A lifelong resident of Kenner, "Mrs. Ellie", was a beacon of light, love, and faith to the world. Eleanor attended Sacred Heart of Jesus High School and Loyola University before marrying Charles James Wolfe in Bremerhaven, Germany, where he was stationed in the United States Air Force. There, they began their marriage of 50 years and their family of six children, based on the principles of love, forgiveness, and faith. The family eventually settled in Kenner where they resided the past 44 years. As an elementary school teacher, Ellie’s patience, grace, and kindness touched the lives of many young students and their families. Through her endless faith and support, Ellie encouraged her husband's pursuit to establish his courier business. A devoted Catholic, she was a member of St. Jerome, and she and Charlie helped establish Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Kenner. She was actively involved in the Cursillo Movement and many ministries including CYO, CCD and Eucharistic Minister. While faced with many challenges, her strength & perseverance were an inspiration to her family and all who knew her. Ellie focused on the many blessings she received, truly believing all people are inherently good. She sought first to understand and found the beauty in every person she encountered, a true embodiment of the lessons taught by Jesus. She led by example and the beauty of her soul is evident in the legacy of love, compassion and faith she leaves behind. Ellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles James Wolfe, her parents, Victor & Lillian Lau, her brother, Daniel Lau, and her two grandsons, Bryan Wolfe and Benjamin Holtsclaw. Eleanor is survived by her six children: Charles V (Mary), James, Leslie, Paul, Thomas (Tracy), and Cathy Walthall, her sister Lillian Canatella, her grandchildren Brittany, Kristyn, Charles, Mallory, Hailey, Alyssa, Camryn, Madison, Meghan, and one great grandchild, Ayden. Relatives and friends may visit between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, and on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 4337 Sal Lentini Pkwy, Kenner from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Funeral Mass.
