David Otis Ezell, a native of New Orleans, LA, on Friday, April 11, 2014, in Metairie, Louisiana, age 69. Beloved father of Sherri Ezell McKenna of Seattle, WA. Father-in-law of Jeremiah McKenna. Cherished Grandpa of Rebecca McKenna. Brother of Dione Ezell Fernandez of New Orleans, LA. Son of the late Otis Ezell and Josephine Sciambra Ezell. Also survived by nephew Wesley Fernandez and former wives Sandra Odom Ezell Port and Susan Williams Ezell. David had many chapters to his life, one more exciting than the next. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1962. He served in the Navy as a Reservist in the early ‘60s. In 1965 he toured the south and east coast, managing the singer, Robert Parker, of “Barefootin’” fame. In 1967 he moved to Los Angeles to continue being part of the music scene. He returned to New Orleans in 1970 where he became a Mechanical Engineer in the hotel industry. While in New Orleans, he coached area youth in the NORD football and baseball program, taking his teams to City Championship level. He then spent the next three decades continuing his career in the hospitality industry relocating to some of the world’s most exotic locations such as Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, Curacoa, South America, and Lanai, Hawaii. The times he spent in these tropical locations were some of his happiest. He recently retired, returning to New Orleans following a few more moves around the country. He will be remembered for his love of his home city, New Orleans, cars, football and horseracing. He was an avid reader who also had a ‘secret addiction’ to soap operas. We will miss his sharp-witted humor which made just about everybody laugh.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Grave Side Service at St. Roch Cemetery No.2 1725 St. Roch Ave. New Orleans on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to his favorite charity, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741, is preferred.
