Carol Elder passed away peacefully on January 13, 2021 at the age of 95. Born in New Orleans, LA on December 10, 1925. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, John W. Elder, her parents, August Hoffman Douglas and Edna Prudhomme Douglas and her brother, August Hoffman “Doug” Douglas, Jr. Carol is survived by her son, John W. “Jack” Elder, Jr. and her sister, Edna Douglas Colton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. After her marriage to John, they moved to several different cities due to John’s employment and eventually resided in Houston, TX, where they called home for the next 65 years. Carol cherished her role of wife to John and mother to Jack and nurtured her many friendships with devotion to the needs of others. She lived her life as an example of her Catholic faith. Carol was a longtime Patron of the Junior League of Houston, Inc. Tea Room, a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and served faithfully at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Dominic Village nursing home, where they cared for Carol for the last 5 years; especially nurses Brenda in Unit 4 and Debbie in Unit 1. Any contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to St. Dominic Village, 2401 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77021. A private burial will be held in New Orleans, LA. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home will oversee the arrangements.
