Carmel Arceneaux Duran
Affectionately known as St. Carmel, generous spirit, loving Spouse and Mother died peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 with her adoring family at her side. She was born on October 8, 1922 to the late Florence and Charles Arceneaux of Plaquemines, Louisiana, the oldest of fraternal twins.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Judge Melvin J. Duran. They wed on September 12, 1942
She is survived by her brother Charles Arceneaux and her 4 loving daughters: Damian Maness of New Orleans, Collette Jamison (Jeff) of San Marcos, Texas, Jeannine Garvey (Pat) of Molino, Florida and Monica Jean Hernandez (Rick) of Houston Texas. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren Danielle (Len) Martini of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Dr. Mandy Maness of Greensville, North Carolina, Renee, Corie June, Nichole and Everette of Molino, Florida, Heather Maness of Marrero? Louisiana, Ricky, Darrin, Tyler and Maya Hernandez of Houston Texas. Carmel has one precious great grandchild

She loved going to Mass every day, dancing, talking with her friends often, counter cross stitching and watching Jeopardy, but most of all she loved her family and The Judge.
She was a founding member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Her service organizations included The Ladies of the Madonna, Ladies Altar Society, Home Demonstration, Red Hats, and Bitch and Stitch.
A celebration Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 6201 Stratford Place, New Orleans, LA 70131 at 10:00 A.M. with visitation beginning at 9:00 A.M.
The family wishes to thank Damian Maness for sharing her home and care.
