Alvin Charles "Bookie" Lopez, Sr.

Alvin Charles “Bookie” Lopez, Sr., age 100 years, passed away on January 3, 2022. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Rita May Lopez. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Alvin is survived by four of his children, Rita L. Falterman, Alvin C. “Sparky” Lopez, Jr. (Claudia), Catherine N. Lopez, and Patricia L. Langlois (Pierre); his eight grandchildren, Brett Falterman (Inga) , Myron Lopez, Jason Falterman (Ami), Jonathan Langlois (Beth), Nicholas Langlois, Misty Evans (Ben), Jennifer Metzger (AJ), and Jordan Harry, and his 13 great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Alvin was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Noel Lopez, parents, Louise L. and Herbert J. Lopez, Sr., brother, Herbert J. Lopez, Jr., and sisters, Dorothy A. Lopez, Eyson L. Jacob, and Ruth Alonzo Morros.

He was a WWII veteran, who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Alvin retired after many years in the construction business. He was a gentleman and a romantic, toasting his wife, Rita May, on the 17th of every month in honor of their anniversary. They enjoyed dancing in their living room to their favorite song “You Belong to My Heart”, traveling, and family gatherings. He was a humble man who believed in truthfulness, loyalty, and honor and that a person was only as good as their word.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:30AM. The interment will follow the Mass at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. For health and safety, the family requests that all in attendance properly wear masks for the services.
