Alfred Joseph Jeanfreau

Alfred Joseph Jeanfreau peacefully left the physical world on December 6, 2024. He was a loving husband, dedicated father and proud grandfather. Born on March 31, 1942, Alfred (“A.J.”) grew up in the Seventh Ward with his parents and sister, Eileen. He dutifully helped in his parents’ attached corner grocery store while attending St. Leo the Great school. The family soon moved to the budding neighborhood of Lakeview. After attending Jesuit High School, A.J. went to Loyola College where he graduated in Dentistry. He joined the Air Force where he served as a dentist and was honorably discharged. Soon after establishing his practice back in New Orleans as a civilian, he met his wife-to-be, Kathleen McDonald. Their unconditional love lasted the rest of their lives and bore one son, Greg who A.J gave every bit of himself to raising with love. A.J. was a voracious reader who was able to match his encyclopedia of knowledge with his enjoyment of crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed listening to music on WWOZ and later in life, audiobooks. One of his favorite past times was watching his 3 grandchildren run wild around the yard. "Pépère" as they called him, loved his grandchildren dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Kathleen McDonald Jeanfreau, his parents Alfred Alvin Jeanfreau and Lucille Rose DiVencenti Jeanfreau, as well as his sister Eileen Ann Jeanfreau Bruno (Martin). He is survived and will be dearly missed by his son Greg S. Jeanfreau (Winter) as well as his grandchildren Alexander Pierre, Avery Rose and Ethan Samuel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. The Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 AM in the chapel and the interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery.
