New London- It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Stephen A. Sylvester, 72, on April 19th, 2024. He was born October 26, 1951, in New London where he was raised by his parents, Ernest and Rose (Camillucci) Sylvester.
He attended local schools and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1973 being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame as the first recipient of the Pioneer Award for Sports Journalism in 2010.
He raised two daughters, Laura Sylvester of Austin, Texas and Marissa S. Capizzi (Thomas) of Brookfield, Connecticut and grandsons Frank and Anthony.
He met the love of his life and married Dianne (Champlin) Sylvester in 2013. He was a stepfather to her two sons, Christopher and Michael Champlin, and daughter Kelsey (Dale) Weaver and their children Kallie and Kobey. All live and work locally.
He retired from CUNA Brokerage Services of Madison, Wisconsin and served the members of Charter Oak Federal Credit Union as a financial advisor for 35 years with many distinguished awards and accolades.
Services will be private with internment at Cedar Grove Cemetery in New London.
