Bonnie Larkins, age 73, went to the Lord on 4 Oct 23 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT with her husband, Greg Carabine, by her side after courageously battling an incurable blood cancer for almost seven years.
Bonnie, born in Seattle, WA to William Larkins and Doris (O’Leary) Larkins grew up in New Jersey until her family moved to Norwich, CT and where she graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1969. Bonnie’s positivity, unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others, and exceptional work ethic was applauded during her almost 20 years at John Myers Apparel, as office manager for an orthopedic group, as a scuba diving shop manager, and most recently as a Workers’ Compensation Analysist at Electric Boat. Her selfless dedication to others and innate ability to bring people together left a lasting impact in those she served.
Bonnie loved the outdoors, traveling, the ocean, scuba diving, biking, and playing golf. She inspired others through her commitment to ensuring an environment which could be enjoyed by generations to come. Bonnie once told her sister she would like to come back as a fish so she could be in the ocean forever. It was her love of nature, and specifically the ocean and beach, which brought her and Greg together through their love of scuba diving.
Bonnie cherished family and sought opportunities to celebrate even the smallest of their milestones or accomplishments. She is survived by her husband, Greg Carabine, their daughter Catherine Carabine (Alan Lapenna), sisters Patrice Larkins-Jones (Kip Jones) and Debra Larkins Orr (Larry Orr), brother Phillip Romaine (Jimmie Dee Romaine), grandchildren Finton, Alyssa, and Noah, daughter in-law Robin Carabine, nephews Alden Jones, Ben Romaine, Chris Tenczar and niece April Jones. A celebration of life and internment in the Coast Guard Academy Columbarium will be held in the spring of next year. In lieu of flowers, Bonnie would have liked a donation to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in New York City to continue helping others.
