Wilbert was born January 13, 1925 in New Iberia to the late Claude Viator, Sr. and Wilda Bourque Viator. As a young man, he learned the value of hard work and kept that ethic throughout his lifetime. He farmed with his father and learned carpentry as a skill. He worked with many construction companies in the area and was known for his great work as a carpenter.
Outside of his work, Wilbert had many pastimes that brought him joy. He loved tending to his garden and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. But his favorite time was barbequing and visiting with family. Many great meals were had, and more memories were shared with family. His daughters shared that he was a simple man that enjoyed the simple things in life. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Lorraine Viator, Caroline Viator Veazey (Keith), and Bonnie Viator Laux (Bob); a son-in-law, Wayne Romero; his grandchildren, Jake Viator (Mel), Keisha Veazey, Keegan Reeves (Dustin), Katie Veazey, Alanna White, Winifred Romero, Dwayne Romero (Freda), Juanita Sonnier (Roy) and Ashly Burks; and a host of great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Trahan Viator; his son and daughter, Stanley James Viator and Brenda Viator Romero; and his sisters and brothers, Xavier Viator, Pearly Richard, Edmar Viator, Wilda Primeaux, Delta Boudreaux and Claude Viator, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday June 15, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his beloved wife. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
