Stella Comeaux Larson

NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be celebrated for Stella Theresa Comeaux Larson, 88, on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Alexander Albert will officiate. Burial will take place after the services at Rosehill Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday form 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday at 8:00 am until the service time.

A native of Coteau and resident of New Iberia, Stella passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia.

Born on July 6, 1928 to the late Raoul Sr. and Agnes Babineaux Comeaux, Stella was one of fifteen children. She was a kind and loving woman who dedicated her time to serving others. Stella was a people person who had an infectious smile, a heart for hospitality, and found joy in helping those in need. She belonged to many organizations and committees throughout New Iberia, where she served in whatever capacity she could offer.

Stella was the best waitress that the Holiday Inn ever had and she cleaned People’s bank better than anyone. She was well known for her love of bowling and had trophy after trophy to show off.

Stella had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening, especially vegetables. Anything that she planted in the dirt grew and nothing would ever go to waste. Every vegetable that came out of her garden was eaten, usually by family and friends. Her favorite was watermelon. She also had a gift for finding four leaf clovers. Stella had a great love for birds. She could often be found on her front porch feeding the birds that came to visit her garden. Her favorite flower was a Bird of Paradise. A loving mother, sister, and grandmother, Stella will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Barbara Viator of UT, Raymond Larson and wife Janet of New Iberia, Cliff Larson, Jr. of CA, Ron Larson of TX,; brothers, Merlin Comeaux of Coteau, Raoul “June” “RJ” Comeaux, Jr. of Abbeville, Roy Comeaux of New Iberia, and Fred Comeaux of Lake Charles; sisters, Thelma Lemaire and Laura Comeaux both of Lafayette; seventeen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Kern Comeaux, Ada Murphy, Herman Comeaux, Loveless Comeaux, Rena Comeaux, Jane Foreman, Marianne Comeaux, and Philip “Pat” Comeaux; and grandson, Ray James Viator, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Cliff Larson, Ron Larson, Fred Comeaux, Roy Comeaux, Jason Comeaux, Lee Larson, Chase Larson, Jason Viator, and Steven Viator.

The family would like to thank the staff of Consolata for their care and compassion towards Stella.
