NEW IBERIA - Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Shellie Waites, Sr., age 86, at 12 Noon on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Rev. Scott Bullock will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery with the flag presentation by VFW Post #1982.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at Evangeline Funeral Home.
Mr. Waites was born October 13, 1923 in San Augustin, Texas to Lonnie A. Waites and Naomi Byrum Waites and went home to the Lord Sunday, May 30, 2010, just four months after the passing of his wife, Ruth Ann Burgess Waites.
He proudly served in the Army during WWII and received an honorable discharge February 5, 1944. Shellie worked many years as a salesman in the oilfield business and was also retired from Jefferson Parish School Board. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Iberia and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Bivins, TX.
Survivors include his children, Shellie Waites, Jr. and wife Myra of Hoover, AL, and Gail Graves and husband James of New Iberia; grandchildren, Shellie Waites, III and wife Lauren and Kari Henderson and husband Jay all of Hoover, AL, Paul Tuminello and wife Kellea, and Jamie Schuler and husband Benjamin all of Baton Rouge; and his great grandchildren, Matthew Waites, Sierrah Preciado and Logan Preciado all of Hoover, AL.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Burgess Waites; an infant child, Shirley Ann Waites; parents, Lonnie and Naomi Waites; and a brother, Lloyd Waites.
Pallbearers will be James Graves, Paul Tuminello, Benjamin Schuler and Shellie Waites, III.
