NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Oswald George Myers, age 87, at 11:00 am Wednesday July 11, 2012 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Bro. Andy Starks, pastor of Cornerstone Cowboy Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and on Wednesday from 8:30 am until services.
Oswald was born February 21, 1925 in Lydia, La to Andrew and Gussie Broussard Myers and passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Belle Teche Nursing Home with his family at his side.
Oswald was retired from Entex with over 50 years of services as the maintenance manager in charge of several offices.
Oswald was known as a generous and spiritual man that never met a stranger and opened his home to anyone in need. He enjoyed gardening and cooking, having shared many memorable meals with family and friends, and was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves. He was a loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, brother and friend and leaves behind many fond memories that will be forever cherished.
Survivors include his children, Terry G. Myers and wife Muriel of Lexington, TX, Gail Myers Broussard of New Iberia, Steve P. Myers and wife Vickie of New Iberia, Kent J. Myers of New Iberia; Tammy Gaspard and husband Jerome of New Iberia, and Craig A. Myers of Shreveport, 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; his brother, Clifford Meyers and wife Lorraine of New Iberia; and Barbara Dore, who he raised and loved as his child.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Romero Myers; parents, Andrew and Gussie Broussard Myers; and his sisters, Tina Broussard, Grace Dorcey and Delores Viator.
Pallbearers will be Kent and Terry Myers, Clifford Meyers, Jerome Gaspard, Mitchell A. Dartez, Mitch R. Dartez, Jared Smith and Derek Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve and Craig Myers.
