NEW IBERIA – Funeral Services will be conducted for Mrs. Melvin J. Verret, the former Marie Castille, age 82, at 11:30 am Monday, January 30, 2017 at Evangeline Funeral Home with her son, Pastor Steven Verret officiating. Interment will be follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday. Visitation will resume at 8:00 am on Monday, January 30 until service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Verret passed away at 1:55 am on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Landmark of Acadiana.
Mrs. Verret attended Mt. Carmel and graduated from New Iberia Senior High. She married Melvin J. Verret and they had four children. After Mr. Verret passed away in 1976, Marie continued to raise her young family, enjoying every minute with them and always putting them first.
Marie enjoyed dancing to Cajun French Music and remained independent for many years. She later moved to Azalea Estates where she received great care, especially from her beloved niece Christine Thibodeaux. She then eventually relocated to Landmark of Acadiana.
She will be missed dearly by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Tina Verret Rosenbalm and husband Allan of Lafayette; James L. Verret and wife Karen of New Iberia; Steven J. Verret and wife Jewel of San Diego and Nancy Verret McAnally and husband David of Katy, TX; eight grandchildren, Lacey Rosenbalm; Greg Rosenbalm and wife Lindsey; Amber McAnally; Madelyn McAnally; Camille McAnally; Savannah Verret, Scarlett Verret and Brandon Griffith; one great grandchild, Thera Cathryn Rosenbalm and two sisters, Mildred Filisky of New Iberia and Elmire Jouett of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. Verret; Parents, George Joseph Castille, Sr. and Elmire Tauzin Castille; four sisters, Margaret Thibodeaux; Eula Mae “Caspa” Courrege; Laurence “Mammie” Girouard and Lou Ella “Lou” Verret and five brothers, Lee Castille; George Castille, Jr.; Ellis Castille; Raymond Castille, Sr. and Charles Castille.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Azalea Estates and Landmark of Acadiana for the loving and compassionate care given to her.
