Lydia – A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of James “Jim” Joseph Frawley, Sr. will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Fr. Randy Courville will be the celebrant. Readers for the mass will be Brianne Frawley and Chyann Frawley. Following the mass, Mr. Frawley will be laid to rest at Holy Family Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the United States Navy and the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm.
Mr. Frawley enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 11, 1940 at USN Recruiting Station, New York City, New York. He served his time at various US Naval Hospitals, Ships (Destroyers) and in the Pacific area during World War II. He was promoted to Chief Pharmacist on February 2, 1945. He was on the USS Willard Keith DD-775 during the Korean War. He was placed on Inactive Duty (Fleet Reserve) on December 1961. He worked at the Iberia Parish Hospital as a Lab Tech from 1962-1965. He also worked for Dr. E. Bourgeois as a Lab Tech until he was recalled to Active Duty and served with the 3rd Marine Division Medical Battalion, Vietnam from 1966-1968 and was retired July 1, 1970.
From 1969 until 1982 was spent working for Louisiana State Employment Security as a Supervisor.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl M. Frawley; a son-in-law, David “Bro” Pichoff both of Lydia; and a step-sister, Margaret Dineen of Melville, NY; nine grandchildren, Tina P. Landry of New Iberia, Tony Pichoff and wife Robin of New Iberia, Terry Derise and husband Clint of Lydia, Todd Pichoff and wife Sai Ana of Lydia, Tanya P. Decoux of Lydia, Dawn Trahan of Lydia, Steven Frawley and wife Cyndi of New Iberia, Jeffrey Frawley of Lydia, Tim Frawley and wife Renee’ of Scott; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Mr. Frawley is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Lillian Darcey Frawley; his son James J. Frawley, Jr.; his daughter, Gwendolyn Frawley Pichoff; his mother and father, Catherine and Michael J. Frawley; his step-mother, May; and his sister and brothers, Virginia McDonald, Robert Frawley, Michael John Frawley and Kenneth Frawley.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeffrey, Tim, Steven, Bryce and Chance Frawley, and Joey Lopez. Honorary pallbearers are David “Bro” Pichoff Brian Swafford and Tony Pichoff.
