NEW IBERIA-A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Guy Paul Bourque, age 68. Fr. Garrett Savoie, Pastor will officiate the services.
Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery where he will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Evangeline Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The Catholic Daughters will lead the Rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Thursday until 1:30 pm.
Guy was born on August 16, 1954 in New Iberia, LA to the late Rinaud “NuNu” and Bernice Hebert Bourque and was one of five children. He passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 2:25 am at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Peggy Bourgeois Bourque; two daughters, Misty B. Smith and husband Michael and Kegan Bourque; one son, Guy Paul Bourque and wife Desiree’; eleven grandchildren, Alexis Bourque and Tray Breaux; Claire Bourque, Sidney Bourque, Jack Bourque-Camou; Michael Smith, Jr.,; Lyndsey Smith; Ashlyn Smith; Logan Smith; Gunner Smith; Devin Flowers and Brittany Miller; three great grandchildren, Adalynn Bourque, DeClan Breaux and Conner Buteau and two sisters, Dianne Henneman and husband Doug and Renee’ Voorhies and Walter Voorhies. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and all of his beloved animals.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Bourque; one sister, Linda B. Moore and one grandson, Gabriel Paul Bourque.
Guy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He served as a fireman for New Iberia Fire Department for 33 years and retired as Assistant Fire Chief.
He was also employed as a plumber with Touchet’s Plumbing, Cliff Distributing and also worked alongside his sister for 28 years at Voorhies Lawn Service and Paradise Car Wash. His family fondly remembers his abundance of energy and willingness to help others.
He had a love for the outdoors, feeding his animals, which included, chickens, doves, pigeons, cats and dogs. His favorite activity of all was being with his family, friends and his buddies.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Guy Bourque, II, Walter Voorhies, Tray Breaux, Dax Lanclos, Doug Henneman and Shelton Romero. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Voorhies, Larry Bourgeois, Sulley Bourgeois Jeremy Romero and Michael Smith, Jr.
