COTEAU –A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, February 3, 2023 for Eugene “Gene” Arceneaux, age 76, at 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Fr. Matthew Hebert will officiate. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery.
The family requests visiting hour be observed on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Evangeline Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 am by the Knights of Columbus Council # 12997.
A native and resident of New Iberia, Gene passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on June 15, 1946 to the late Antoine and Rita Duplantis Arceneaux and was one of five children.
He was employed in the oilfield for many years as a roustabout and tank builder. Upon his retirement he began a career as an electrician and enjoyed wood working and carpentry. He coached track and field and bowling for the Special Olympics for 23 years.
Gene will be remembered for the love he had for his family, gardening, bowling and listening to music.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jeannette Toucheque Arceneaux; his children, Richard Arceneaux and wife Tammy; Melissa Arceneaux and Ryan Arceneaux; his grandchildren, Trey Arceneaux and Cain Arceneaux and one sister, Joyce A. Broussard.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by; three brothers, Donald, Orice and Arthur Ray Arceneaux; one sister in law, Mary L. Arceneaux and one brother in law, Raymond Broussard.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Richard Arceneaux; Rickey Arceneaux; Alvin Toucheque, Sr., Brent Broussard, Layton Broussard and Alvin “Boogie” Toucheque, Jr.
Cain Arceneaux, Trey Arceneaux, Melissa Arceneaux, Ryan Arceneaux and Patrick Pitre will be honorary pallbearers.
